Williston Peanut Festival

Today we went to the Williston Peanut Festival and walked around. If you drive to our house and if you look real close to the road you'll probably see peanut shells on the ground. The Peanut trucks are brim full and the peanuts are usually falling to the ground as they drive to the peanut factory's.

The Glidewell's new favorite snack is boiled peanuts we weren't sure at first but we gave it a try and really liked them. Here is what everyone said after giving it a try.
Ace - the broth taste like beef bullion and the peanut has a combination taste between a bean and potatoes.
Ang - reminds me of refried bean dip but its not mashed yet.
Piper - I don't know what they taste like they don't have a flavor.
Gustie - Mmmm they taste like candy.
Stormie - they taste like mashed potatoes.
Aurora - smashed potatoes!
Sam - Num a Num a Num

Some of us like to suck the shell before eating the peanut and some Florida people like to eat the shell and the peanut all together. A little to much fiber for my taste! The next time you are traveling south give some a try. You usually find them warm in a crock pot at any gas station.

Boiled peanuts huh?! Can you boil just any old peanuts or are the once you used special?

Keep the good ideas coming!
Miss you!

I love to suck the shell, and then eat the peanuts! Those are the best!

Sounds like you are in more like Georgia...are you sure you didn't stop to early?? Are you really in Florida? I wish I could come verify!

Yeah for boiled peanuts! There are little roadside peanut stands all over S. Alabama, and we love them too! AL also has a peanut festival coming up in Nov. not too far from here. As far as what kind of p'nuts to use, the best ones are made with "green" (meaning raw) peanuts, and of course a whole lot of salt! When p'nuts aren't in season, though, they can be made with dried in-the-shell peanuts (like the big circus kind) but these aren't as good as the green ones.
