The way SHE remembers it. . .
Thirteen Years Ago Today Ace and I were married in a church we grew up in. In front of 300 people we said our vows. If you told me I would be married today with five children I don't think I would believe you. Fourteen years ago I was sitting in a college classroom learning how to be a spinster school teacher. I would have never guessed that a friend of mine was going to propose to me on a rock in the Adirondacks mountains with a rock of his own in his back pack.
Five months later it happened he asked Will You Marry Me? I was still stuck on his first question "Will you hold my hand?" which I would not do. Josh Harris book "I Kissed Dating Goodbye" just came out. I had not read the book but heard him speak on Family Life. I was not going to hold Ace's hand. He was not going to propose until I did. UGH! It was all a blur so I don't know if I held his hand or not. I must have since he did propose. Then I asked "does that mean we are engaged?" I was a little confused because usually, where I come from, there is dating before a proposal right?
So here we are Thirteen years later with the signs of old age showing up (aging spots and wrinkly skin, and weight gain to name a few). Still in love with one another and celebrating with our children another year!
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY LOVER!
The way HE remembers it. . .
TODAY'S MY ANNIVERSARY?! I'll be back. . . I gotta run to the gas station to get some flowers!
OK, Just kidding. This year I said "Happy Anniversary" to her first, half way thru breakfast. That earned a point or two, but I digress.
Back twenty some years ago, when I was in Junior High, there was this girl in the youth group who stood in the hall brushing her teeth. All the time. That was when she first got my attention; I thought "How could anyone have teeth left after that much scrubbing?? They must be nearly worn down to the gums!" . . . and didn't think about it again for 10 years.
Then one day, I was camping in the Adirondack mountains with some friends, and I saw this woman brushing her teeth. It was HER! I recognized the toothbrush. I figured I was old enough to get married, and she had clean teeth, so I asked her if she would marry me. I took her hand, and she said YES. Or maybe she said YES and THEN I took her hand. She had this huge smile, I remember the suds.
Anyway, seven months later we were married, and now our toothbrushes reside in the same toothbrush holder every night, and have been joined by five little toothbrushes. And a tube of toothpaste, squeezed in the middle.
So here we are, Thirteen years later, with only a few cavity's to show for it. Still in love with one another and celebrating with our children another year!
